I am in a bind for extra money and I am interested in starting a part time residential cleaning business as a one woman business (you can see that this will be a very very small business). I already work full time and would like to do this on the side.
I already have most of the supplies because I am a neat freak and I was going to start out with door hangers to advertise. I am only interested in cleaning 1 to 2 houses per week.
I am looking for advice on how to get started, what services to offer as a very small business, what to charge/how to bill, and I would like your experienced thoughts on whether it is worth it to start such a small business.
Please post your thoughts especially if you are already doing something like this, on a small scale, however all thoughts are welcome.
It saddens me to say that I have scene every episode of the Real Housewives on Bravo, and pretty much all the women either run a business or spend most of their time pushing their own charities, which most of the time that money goes back into their pockets anyway. Either way, I know that you can see a real housewife on “Wife Swap” but why does the show mislead the public into thinking these women are “housewives”? Some of the women aren’t even married, so I don’t get it.
I have checked all the supposed grants lists that you have to purchase and most of the grants available to women owned business are not for start-ups. They appear to be for tools once you are already in business, like money to pay an IT person or accountant if you need it. SBA has a 10,000.00 microloan that you still have to have good credit to get for a start up but I will need about 20,000.00 total. I can try to get a tax id number but even that would be New credit which can be worse than no credit. Anyone have this as a specialty or gone through this same situation lately?
