Gateshead Council (North East UK) invited Ling to present the Womens’ Enterprise Award and asked me to spend 15 minutes explaining my own business success. She says, “On November 13th 2007 I arrived and managed my talk in less than 10 minutes – always keep people wanting more and don’t bore them! It was so funny as Duncan Bannatyne said “Councils are like that, they make life difficult for all of us” – which got a laugh. I try to entertain and hate to be bored, so I made it funny and lively. I got some fantastic comments after the talk, I was told it was the best presentation they had had for ages. I ended by giving away out of date FUKU noodles, which went down really well. Gateshead Council paid me to speak. If anyone wants me to spend 10-30 minutes at their event talking about building a successful business, internet marketing or making a success of being an immigrant in the UK, I would be pleased to discuss. Congratulations to the winners of the 2007 Womens’ Business Awards! Last year I won the North East Entrepreneur Award, this year I am giving awards out! Great, eh?” – Ling
I am in a bind for extra money and I am interested in starting a part time residential cleaning business as a one woman business (you can see that this will be a very very small business). I already work full time and would like to do this on the side.
I already have most of the supplies because I am a neat freak and I was going to start out with door hangers to advertise. I am only interested in cleaning 1 to 2 houses per week.
I am looking for advice on how to get started, what services to offer as a very small business, what to charge/how to bill, and I would like your experienced thoughts on whether it is worth it to start such a small business.
Please post your thoughts especially if you are already doing something like this, on a small scale, however all thoughts are welcome.
